Mixer: Josh Honn Mix Title: In Between Uncommon Folk is an mp3 blog written and run by Josh Honn of Chicago dedicated to spreading the gospel of current and experimental independent folk music. Every Wednesday, Uncommon Folk features artist and label interviews and often does record, art and fashion giveaways. The site boasts a readership of around 20,000 readers a month. In January 2006 Uncommon Folk will be releasing a 2XCD curated by Honn on the great Miami-based record label Hometapes. Uncommon Folk refers to artists transcending trends and genrefication by making amazing sounds. It is uncommon because it is new, constantly changing and challenging. It is folk because the artists are people. That, in the end, is all folk means: people. Folk music is not a static genre. It has certain distinct historical roots and sounds, but in the end, it is the tales, be them sonic or not, that people want to share with others and is ever-changing, ever-challenging. Uncommon Folk is the culmination of what happens when artist interact with their environment. Call 312.255.9454 if you can not attend the party and wish to fax in a bid on a mix.
