Mixer: Johnny Mars

Mix Title: Untitled

Michael Nameche's new gushing paragraph of what an awesome disc jockey Johnny Mars is will go right here as soon as he writes it. For now, please know that Johnny can be found on the Chicago radio dial at 99.9 FM. Their current format is that they have no format - they play whatever moves the masses whether it be the Jesus & Mary Chain or Madonna.

Here is what Mike said last year about Johnny's impact to his musical growth:

"Of all the mixes here, I am most excited about this one. To a shy and awkward kid growing up in Aurora , IL , Johnny Mars was a veritable lifeline of possibility & excitement. After 9 pm on WXRT, the brakes really came off the cart and listeners were witness to the best example of the transformative power of radio in the country. I am indebted to this easy going guy many times over. If you happened to tune into the Big Beat on XRT over the ‘80s and ‘90s you were likely introduced Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Ministry, Nirvana, Mudhoney, PJ Harvey, Sleater Kinney and countless other amazing bands. He delivered the sounds with a great mixture of enthusiasm and humor that represented the DIY ethic. I learned about music’s life changing power listening to Johnny over the years and I bring that lesson to work at Rock For Kids every day."
